Alternatives To Maternity Health Insurance

Over 41% of the American population does not have health insurance, so learning that you are pregnant and trying to find maternity health insurance can be very difficult especially during a time period that no doubt will force you to make many adjustments to your life.  However, there are a few solutions out there for you if you are looking for a provider who will insure you if you are already pregnant and offer you a plan that will provide you with the prenatal care that you so desperately need.

If you are not thinking about pregnant, but have not yet conceived, now is the ideal time to consider looking for maternity health insurance.  This is because many health insurance providers consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition and will either not pick up a woman who is pregnant, or cover any of the incurring expenses from the pregnancy.  However, the law in many states including Utah requires these insurance agents to still offer you a choice in your plan, so you may want to look for a different provider if you feel that you are being mislead in your negotiations.

If your maternity health insurance is unclear to you before you sign a policy, it is probably in your best efforts not to try your luck with the insurance company.  You want to find the best maternity health insurance plan for you, and that means you and your unborn child, so do not feel that you are ever forced to compromise the best care for both of you because of what an insurance company may tell you.

There are several solutions to maternity health insurance that can help you receive the care that you and your unborn child are going to need.  For instance, Medicaid is available for low income mothers and their children to help foot the bill of the medical expenses you will incur if you qualify.  Different states also have different pregnancy programs that you may qualify for, so you will want to head to your nearest community health center to learn if any of these options are available to you.

Additionally, you might consider looking into insurance brokers to find you a maternity health insurance, as they know the ins and the outs of the business better than you and may be able to find you a maternity health insurance plan that you can afford much better than you ever could while surfing the internet.

Finally, in lieu of maternity health insurance, you might consider being more hip and adaptable and giving birth in a birthing center versus a hospital as you can usually save a few thousand dollars on the medical bills.  Also, since you know you will have to give birth, you might consider checking with your local hospital for payments plans or a sliding scale that you utilize to pay for your birth.  Many hospitals have plans for pregnant mothers that go unused because people are not aware that they may qualify for these plans.
